Straight edge router bits generally are stronger than spiral flute router bits, especially in single edge variants. However they may not plunge as well, especially in thicker materials and some may create a "disc" of material at the bottom, mainly when plunging in to aluminium or other non ferrous materials. Cutting forces are lateral to the cutter so may require more power.
